					</table><p>Mumbai-headquartered <a href="https://www.renewsysworld.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RenewSys India</a>, manufacturer of solar modules and key components, has signed an agreement to supply 300 MW of high-performance solar encapsulants to Chhattisgarh-based solar solutions company, ICON Solaren Power Technologies (<a href="https://www.iconsolar-en.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Icon Solar</a>), to support large-scale solar module production.</p>
<p>RenewSys will supply Icon Solar with its polyolefin elastomer encapsulants.</p>
<p>Polyolefin elastomer encapsulant films ensure strong adhesion between solar cell layers to maintain electrical insulation and enable long-term durability under varied operating conditions.</p>
<p>RenewSys claims this technology will provide enhanced durability, superior resistance to potential-induced degradation, and long-term field performance for the solar cells.</p>
<p>Under the supply agreement, RenewSys will execute the supply order between January and April 2026.</p>
<p>RenewSys manufacturers multiple solar components. Its portfolio includes 30 GW of encapsulants and 4 GW of solar backsheets. It is also installing a 5 GW solar cell line.</p>
<p>Recently, RenewSys <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renewsys-to-supply-1-1-gw-poe-encapsulants-to-kosol-energie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a 1.1 GW supply agreement for its polyolefin elastomer encapsulants with Kosol Energie.</p>
<p>In May this year,  RenewSys <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renewsys-expands-encapsulant-capacity-to-30-gw-with-khopoli-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a significant expansion of its encapsulant manufacturing capacity by adding eight new production lines at its facility in Khopoli, Maharashtra. This development will increase the company’s total encapsulant production capacity to 30 GW.</p>
<p>In September, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/india-opens-antidumping-investigation-probe-into-solar-encapsulant-imports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">initiated</a> an investigation into the alleged dumping of solar encapsulants exported from and originating in South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. The investigation is in response to a complaint that the encapsulants dumped into India from the three countries are identical to those produced by the domestic industry.</p>
<p>Indian solar ancillary component manufacturers had <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/manufacturers-seek-almm-mandate-for-solar-components" target="_blank" rel="noopener">urged</a> the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy last year to mandate the use of domestically manufactured solar components, including encapsulants, in government projects to create a robust local supply chain and reduce the reliance on imports.</p>
<p>India’s solar cell and module manufacturing has been growing rapidly, but the components ecosystem, comprising encapsulants, backsheets, glass, junction boxes, aluminum frames, and mounting structures, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/industry-calls-for-end-to-end-solar-manufacturing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continues</a> to rely heavily on imports.</p>


RenewSys to Supply 300 MW of Solar Encapsulants to Icon Solar

					</table><p>Mumbai-headquartered integrated solar module manufacturer <a href="https://www.renewsysworld.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RenewSys</a> has signed a 1.1 GW supply agreement for its polyolefin elastomer (POE) encapsulants with <a href="https://kosolenergie.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kosol Energie</a>.</p>
<p>Encapsulant is a protective layer for shielding solar cells from environmental damage.</p>
<p>Under the agreement, RenewSys will supply POE encapsulants to Kosol Energie over a ten-month period from December 2025 to September 2026, supporting the production of advanced, high-efficiency solar modules at Kosol’s state-of-the-art facilities.</p>
<p>RenewSys manufactures solar components, including 30 GW of encapsulants and 4 GW of backsheets, and is installing a high-efficiency solar cell line with a capacity of 4.5 GW. The company generates 640 kW of solar energy across its factories for captive consumption, including 350 kW from ground-mounted systems and 290 KW from rooftop installations.</p>
<p>The company’s POE encapsulants, marketed under the CONSERV range, are UL-certified and suitable for both glass-glass and glass-backsheet modules. The CONSERV E 360 product combines attributes of thermoplastic polyolefin and POE.</p>
<p>According to RenewSys, these encapsulants provide low thermal shrinkage, allowing cutting nearly equal to the glass size with no cell misalignment, better aesthetics, and shorter lamination cycles. They offer ultra-low string shifting, a wide processing window, high gel content of up to 85%, reduced thermal shrinkage, virtually zero thermal creep in glass-glass modules, and testing at 105 degrees for 250 hours.</p>
<p>Kosol Energie is a solar module manufacturer, EPC, and solar solutions provider with over 1 GW executed in utility and commercial, and industrial sectors, and more than 10,000 rooftop projects nationwide.</p>
<p>The company’s in-house capabilities include module and component manufacturing, while its services cover solar park development, battery energy storage systems, floating and ground-mounted systems, and rooftop solar solutions.</p>

					</table><p>The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (<a href="https://www.dgtr.gov.in/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DGTR</a>) has initiated an investigation into the alleged dumping of solar encapsulants exported and originating from South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.</p>
<p>The investigation is in response to a complaint filed by RenewSys India, which alleges that the encapsulants dumped into India from the three countries are identical to those produced by the domestic industry.</p>
<p>The investigation will assess the consequent material injury to the domestic industry to determine the existence, degree, and effect of alleged dumping and to recommend the amount of dumping duty, which, if levied, would be adequate to remove the injury to the Indian industry.</p>
<p>The period of investigation is April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The injury investigation will cover financial years 2022, 2023, and 2024.</p>
<p>DGTR stated that there is sufficient prima facie evidence that the product under consideration from the subject countries is being dumped in the domestic market. “The normal value and the export price have been compared at the ex-factory level, which prima facie establishes that the dumping margin is above the <em>de minimis</em> level and is significant with respect to the product under consideration from the subject countries.”</p>
<p>It said the applicant has claimed that the imports are undercutting the prices of the domestic industry. This has adversely impacted the industry’s profitability and capacity utilization.</p>
<p>The complainant has claimed that there are no differences in the technical specifications, functions, or end-uses of the dumped imports and the domestically produced goods. It stated that polyolefin encapsulants, EVA-POE-EVA encapsulants, and ethyl vinyl acetate are being dumped into India.</p>
<p>These products are polymer-based components used in the manufacturing of solar photovoltaic modules. They are used for encapsulating solar cells and perform both adhesion and cushioning functions. These are one of the most essential components that keep the glass, cell, and backsheet integrated and support the module mechanically during its service life.</p>
<p>DGTR stated that it has considered the normal value of the goods, taking into account the cost of production based in India, along with a reasonable profit margin for all the subject countries. The export price of the subject goods has been determined by considering their cost, insurance, and freight price.</p>
<p>Last September, Indian solar ancillary component manufacturers had <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/manufacturers-seek-almm-mandate-for-solar-components" target="_blank" rel="noopener">urged</a> the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to mandate the use of domestically manufactured solar components, including encapsulants, in government projects to create a robust local supply chain and reduce the reliance on imports.</p>
<p>In February this year, the Ministry of Commerce <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/india-slaps-anti-dumping-duties-on-solar-glass-imports-from-china-and-vietnam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">finalized</a> antidumping duties on imports of textured tempered solar glass from China and Vietnam.</p>

					</table><p>In an interview on the sidelines of the <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/event/renewables-summit-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mercom India Renewables Summit 2025</a> held in New Delhi on July 24 and 25, 2025, Avinash Hiranandani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director at <a href="https://www.renewsysworld.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RenewSys</a>, shared his insights on India’s solar cell and module, and components manufacturing. He also gave an overview of his company’s products and plans for expansion.</p>
<p><strong>India has set a goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. How do you see RenewSys contributing to this goal? </strong></p>
<p>RenewSys has been in the market for more than 10 years. We started off by making encapsulants and backsheets. We have supplied close to 30 GW to the Indian and overseas markets. So, we are an important part of the solar manufacturing sector in India.</p>
<p>We have also been supplying cells and modules, and today we have 5.5 GW module manufacturing capacity ready to start by September. We are also starting our TOPCon cell manufacturing facility. RenewSys has always been supplying high-quality products to the Indian market, and we will continue doing so to help India achieve its 2030 targets.</p>

<p><strong>How do you view the current solar module and cell manufacturing landscape in India? </strong></p>
<p>Today, solar module capacity as per the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers is about 90 GW plus. Solar cell capacity is close to 25 GW in the market and growing very fast. Many small players are also in the market, catering to small capacities. Large-scale projects can be executed much faster if these players become bigger.</p>
<p><strong>What are RenewSys’s plans for expanding the capacities of encapsulants and other components?</strong></p>
<p>Currently, we have 10 GW and are planning to add another 10 GW. With a pipeline of another 10 GW, we will reach 30 GW. We will be adding 20 GW more to reach 50 GW of encapsulant capacity. We are also making transparent back sheets. Transparent backsheets also play a very important role in the market, and they are ready to be supplied.</p>
<p><strong>What is domestic demand like now?</strong></p>
<p>The domestic demand for modules is 90 GW. Some of the components still come from free trade countries and from China. But many players have now realized that sometimes the containers take a lot of time to arrive. The products may also get spoiled in transit. RenewSys makes encapsulants every day. So, the products are fresh.</p>
<p><strong>Are there any quality standards that have been set up for encapsulants and other components in India?</strong></p>
<p>There are IEC standards, and RenewSys has its own standards. We conduct reliability tests on our products. We only sell those products that we use ourselves. That is how we have maintained our leadership position in the Indian market. However, there are no government standards for components like aluminum frames and junction boxes.</p>
<p><strong>Solar developers have been complaining about the unavailability of modules compliant with domestic content requirements. How do you see this situation? </strong></p>
<p>The government has created the demand for DCR modules, and the industry is playing catch-up. Something must start first. If there is no demand, there is no production. There will be periods when you cannot have both demand and supply equally.</p>
<p>When ALMM was introduced, there was hardly any capacity module capacity available. At that time, developers were saying there was not enough capacity available, but now they are saying there is overcapacity.</p>
<p>So, when policies are introduced, demand will follow. You cannot set up capital expenditure-intensive cell lines in the hope that the policy will follow.</p>
<p><strong>With ALMM for cells also coming into effect from June 2026, do you think the Indian manufacturing industry will be able to cope with the demand?</strong></p>
<p>The government is already taking data from manufacturers. It will probably decide whether June 2026 should be the date or whether it should be postponed by three months or six months. That is a call the government will take. Probably with a three to six-month postponement, I think the capacities will come up.</p>
<p><strong>The government is also focusing on backward integration in the solar ecosystem. What are RenewSys’ plans for this? </strong></p>
<p>There is limited support for other products, such as junction boxes, aluminum frames, and encapsulants. The government is in regular contact with us to determine what support can be provided. Then you&#8217;ll see the ancillary industry booming, just like solar manufacturing boomed.</p>
<p><strong>India doesn&#8217;t have a clear target beyond 2030 for renewable energy. What do you think India&#8217;s capacity should be by 2040? </strong></p>
<p>India should add 250 GW of manufacturing right across the solar sector every year. So, there is still significant scope for growth. Solar is not overcrowded. In the long run, there is sufficient space for everyone to participate and for larger players to also enter and develop the solar value chain in the country.</p>

<p>Seven of the new encapsulant lines are operational, with four more expected to be commissioned within 2025. The company plans to operate 19 advanced encapsulant production lines across its facilities.</p>
<p>The company said the manufacturing capacity expansion addresses the increasing demand for high-performance encapsulants in the Indian and global solar markets.</p>
<p>The new production lines at Khopoli are designed to support RenewSys’ strategy of sustainably scaling up operations.</p>
<p>RenewSys said it plans to offer transparent backsheets and anti-acid encapsulants in addition to its established range of ethylene vinyl acetate, polyolefin elastomer, and ethylene propylene elastomer encapsulants.</p>
<p>RenewSys currently operates a solar module manufacturing capacity of 2.5 GW and plans to add an additional 3 GW of capacity by the end of 2025.</p>
<p>The company also has an encapsulant manufacturing capacity of 9 GW and a backsheet manufacturing capacity of 4 GW.</p>
<p>It is also installing a 2.5 GW high-efficiency solar cell line to integrate and expand its renewable energy component manufacturing portfolio.</p>
